To the audience’s amazement, the puppets actually shoot arrows and scatter paper koban (gold coins), thrilling the crowd with their unexpected movements.会瀬の3村の鎮守になったとき、宮田村の氏子たちが、無病息災・五穀豊穣など日々の豊かな暮らしを祈願して、山車を造り、祭礼に奉納したのがはじまり。やがて糸操りの人形芝居が取り入れられ、明治中期から大正初期にかけて現在のような形になった。その規模は高さ15m、幅8m、重さ5tになる豪壮華麗な山車で、表山（おもてやま）では城郭を模した５層の唐破風造りの屋形が開いて5段の舞台が現れる。表山の芝居が終わると山車の上部が回転して裏山（うしろやま）が現れ、別の人形芝居が演じられる。毎年4月に「日本のさくらの名所100選」に選ばれた日立市平和通りで催される「日立さくらまつり」で公開されるほか、7年に一度の神峰神社大祭礼では大雄院(だいおういん)通りで4台全ての山車が披露される。The sight of the Hitachi Furyumono set against cherry blossoms in full bloom is truly breathtaking!Hitachi Furyumono dates back to 1695 (Genroku 8). That year, under the order of Tokugawa Mitsukuni, the second lord of the Mito Domain, Kamine Shrine was designated as the guardian shrine of the three villages of Miyata, Sukegawa, and Ose. To pray for good health, rich harvests, and daily blessings, the parishioners of Miyata Village built festival floats and dedicated them to the shrine.In time, string-operated puppet shows were added, and between the mid-Meiji and early Taisho periods the floats evolved into their present form. Each float is magnificent, measuring 15 meters tall, 8 meters wide, and weighing 5 tons. On the front side (Omote-yama), the roofed structure, with its karahafu-style gable and modeled after a five-story castle, opens to reveal a five-tiered stage. When the performance on the front ends, the top of the float rotates to reveal the back (ushiroyama), where a completely different puppet play unfolds.
