Other highlights include the issei-bayashi (synchronized performance) in front of the main shrine and the evening's Shunkisai.3月9日に行われる（令和２年より、3月9日が平日の場合は、祭頭祭（午前の神事）のみ3月9日に行い、祭頭囃（午後の神事）、春季祭（夜の神事）は3月9日以降の直近の土曜日に行う）。五穀豊穣や天下泰平を願うもので「祈年祭」と言える。毎年北郷，南郷から卜定（ぼくてい）（占い）によって各郷1字の計2地区が当番字に選ばれ、祭囃子を奉納している。色鮮やかな衣装を身に着けた囃人(はやしびと)の一団が、長い樫の棒を組んでは解き、太鼓の音に合わせて囃子ながら参道を練り歩く。夜に行う春季祭では、次の当番字を決める卜定が行われる。卜定中には拝殿前で大豊竹や万灯を粉々になるまで壊す行事が行われ、豊年を祈願する。Saitosai Festival heralds the arrival of springThe Kashima Saitosai is the largest and most dynamic festival held at Kashima Jingu Shrine in Kashima City and it takes place on March 9th every year. (However, since 2020, if March 9th falls on a weekday, only the Saitosai (morning ritual) is held on that day, and Saitobayashi (afternoon ritual) and Shunkisai (evening ritual) are held on the first Saturday after March 9th.) It is a type of Kinensai, a festival to pray for a bountiful harvest and peace across the land. Every year through a divination ritual called bokutei, two districts (one from Hokugo (north area) and one from Nango (south area)) are selected as the toban-aza (district in charge) to dedicate matsuribayashi (festival music performance). Groups of hayashibito performers in colorful costumes parade down the approach to the shrine, intertwining and untwining long oak poles while chanting to the beat of taiko drums. During the Shunkisai held in the evening, a bokutei divination is performed to choose the two toban-aza districts for the following year.
