A kagura dance of illusion and solemnity! Prayers for a good harvest at the end of the yearThese dances have been passed down at Tsutsukowake Shrine (Yatsuki), which is located in Tanagura Town, Fukushima Prefecture. This performance, which is an example of Izumo-style kagura, includes a tsurugi sword dance and is said to have been passed down by shugenja monks. The Shichiza no Kagura includes Kamiōgi fans as well as the following mai (dances): a miko (shrine maiden) dance, hei dance, matsu (shiratsue (white cane)) dance, yumi (bow) dance, tsurugi (sword) dance, sako dance, and shishi (lion) dance. Meanwhile, the Daidai Kagura starts with the Kiyoharai purification ritual and then proceeds to a number of dances done while holding shaku (scepters), bells, heisoku offerings, rice, sickles, swords, and other tools. These dances feature gods and are based on mythological stories that include everything from the Tenchi-kaibyaku (Creation of Heaven and Earth) to the taihei mai dance.
