Although it was occasionally suspended in times of famine, floods, or war, the tradition has been faithfully preserved by members of the local preservation society and remains firmly rooted in the community today. The dance is renowned for its vigorous all-day performances: from early morning until evening, dancers go house to house through a settlement of about 150 homes, performing in rhythm with drums and bells, drenched in sweat. In June, after the rice planting is complete, the festival coincides with Sanaburi—a celebration marking the end of planting and the sending off of the rice-field deity.
