The stage, set against a backdrop of falling snow, creates a uniquely atmospheric ambiance.史を持つ農村歌舞伎。毎年旧暦の小正月にあたる2月15 ・17日に鎮守日枝神社の奉納行事として上演されている。上演演目は50ほどあり、そのほとんどは時代物で、多くは「通し狂言」として演じられてきた。演技の技法は独特のものを持っており、演技や所作の振りは「振り者」が工夫考案し振り付けている。そのため中央の大歌舞伎とは異なる面が見られる。また厳寒のさなか、雪の降りしきる中で上演されることから「寒中芝居」・「雪中芝居」と呼ばれ、夏に上演される福島県の檜枝岐歌舞伎と並んで「冬の黒森、夏の檜枝岐」と親しまれ、東北二大農村歌舞伎として広く知られている。A passionate spirit that challenges the snow, Kuromori Kabuki has been woven through 300 years of history.Kuromori Kabuki was introduced to the Kuromori district of Sakata City during the Kyoho era (1716–1735) in the middle of the Edo period, and has a history of 300 years as a rural kabuki theater. It is performed every year on February 15 and 17, which correspond to the Little New Year on the old lunar calendar, as an offering ceremony at local Shinto deity Hie Shrine. There are approximately 50 plays in the repertoire, most of which are historical dramas, and many are performed as “full Kyogen.” The acting techniques are unique, with the movements and gestures devised and choreographed by “choreographers.” As a result, they differ from those of the major Kabuki theaters. Additionally, since the performances take place in the midst of severe cold, often with snow falling, they are called Kanchu Shibai (Winter Theater) or Setchu Shibai (Snow Theater).
