It brings together the festivals of Kakunodate Shinmeisha Shrine and Yakushido temple, a Buddhist temple, to offer prayers for regional prosperity and good health. The festival takes place over three days every year on September 7th, 8th, and 9th. On the 7th, the floats make a visit to Shinmeisha Shrine, and on the 8th, they pass through streets lined with old samurai residences and are presented to the head of the Satake Hokke samurai clan. On the 8th and 9th, they head to Yakushido temple to pay their respects. The floats are topped by people playing Oyamabayashi folk music on flutes, large and small taiko drums, hand drums, bells, and three-stringed shamisen, while the young women of Akita perform beautiful hand dances. Young men pull the floats around to visit Shinmeisha Shrine and Yakushido temple, as well as the head of the Satake Hokke clan. Yamabuttsuke are the clashes between floats that erupt when floats from different towns encounter each other.
