On the day of the festival, one hundred and dozens dance teams (mazura) participate in the festival, performing a lively dance reminiscent of sparrows in colorful happi coats. The “Sendai Yamahoko Junko” (float parade), a reconstruction based on historical documents of the Sendai Festival held during the feudal domain period, the “Jidai Emaki Junko” (parade of heroic warriors), and the “Masamune Mikoshi Togyo” (portable shrine procession) at Aoba Shrine, dedicated to Masamune, are also outstanding events held during the main festival.
