Give New Year’s decorations as an offering as they are burned at Osaki Hachiman Shrine, which is a national treasure.Donto Sai festivals are a ritual where New Year’s decorations are taken down at many shrines centering on Miyagi Prefecture. The Matsutaki Festival is held at Osaki Hachiman Shrine, which is a national treasure, and is known for its history of roughly 300 years and its impressive scale. A purifying fire is lit in one area of the grounds at around sunset on January 14 for burning New Year’s decorations and old amulets brought in from nearby houses. This fire is seen as a sacred fire for seeing off the gods that visit homes during the new year, and is said to bless those who are exposed to it with a pure body and soul as well as good health and family safety.Traditional dances passed down for a thousand years!Experience a spring ritual featuring seven performances! This traditional annual festival has been passed down for around 1,200 years since the Heian period. The festival starts with Oyamazume, an event during which a mikoshi (portable shrine) procession makes its way to Hakusan Shrine after being signaled to do so by fireworks. On the stage set up on the shrine grounds, there are seven performances intended to convey the elegance and samurai spirit of the Heian period, including a lion dance to purify the stage, the Irifurimai dance, during which each dancer holds a naginata (polearm), and the Dengakumai dance, a powerful dance used to pray for a bountiful harvest. Because you can see the dancers’ movements and facial expressions from right next to the stage, the festival gets more and more exciting as the dance proceeds.Date:January 14 every yearPlace:Osaki Hachiman ShrineBus : Short walk from the Osaki Hachimangu-mae stop on the Sendai City bus “via Osaki Hachimangu” from Sendai Station.Osaki Hachiman ShrineDate:Every year on the first Sunday in AprilPlace:Hakusan ShrineCar: About 15 minutes by car from the Wakayanagi-Kannari I.C., which is on the Tōhoku ExpresswayRural Tourism Division, Department of Commerce, Industry, and Tourism, Kurihara City Hall開催日:毎年1月14日場所:大崎八幡宮バス:仙台駅より「大崎八幡宮経由」仙台市営バスに乗車、「大崎八幡宮前停留所」より徒歩すぐ大崎八幡宮 022-234-3606開催日:毎年4月第1日曜日場所:白山神社車:東北自動車道「若柳金成I.C.」より車で約15分栗原市役所商工観光部田園観光課 0228-22-1151白鉢巻・白さらしを巻いた数千人が、市内各所から御神火を目指して参拝する「裸参り」は、仙台市の冬の風物詩。The heading off to sacred fires all over the city by thousands of worshipers that are nearly nude, wearing white headbands and white stomach wraps, is a winter tradition of Sendai City.祭りの最後を飾るのが、馬上から扇の的を射抜く「馬乗渡し」。この演目は、1185年の源平合戦で那須与一が扇の的を射落としたことに由来する。The festival ends with the Bajo Watashi event, during which a rider fires at a fan target while on horseback.
