You will surely become a “captive” of the festival.「東北の奇祭」とも呼ばれるけんか七夕陸前高田市に伝わる「気仙町けんか七夕まつり」は、豪華に飾り立て、山から切り出した太い藤づるで、舵棒と呼ばれる樹齢５０年の杉の丸太をくくりつけた4トンもの大きな山車が、力強い囃子が鳴り響く中、山車同士をぶつけ合う、文字通り「けんか」する勇壮な夏祭りであり、起源は古く900年以上の歴史と伝統がある。この山車の上で鳴らされる囃子が「けんか七夕太鼓」で、大太鼓・締太鼓・小太鼓・笛からなり、山車が各町内を練り歩くときの「歩み太鼓」、山車が休んでいるときの「休み太鼓」、山車と山車をぶっつけ合うときの「けんか太鼓」の３種類があり、祭りの一日の様子を表現している。「気仙町けんか七夕祭り」は、最も勇壮で特有な内容を持つ極めて貴重な七夕祭りの一つである。Kenka Tanabata Festival, also known as “Tohoku's Unique Festival“The Kesen-cho Kenka Tanabata Festival, passed down in Rikuzentakata City, features a large float weighing four tons, lavishly decorated, and tied to a 50-year-old cedar log called a “rudder stick”, with thick ropes from wisteria trees cut from the mountain. The festival has a history and tradition of more than 900 years, and is a majestic summer festival in which floats literally battle each other amidst powerful musical accompaniment. The musical accompaniment played on the floats is “Kenka Tanabata Daiko,” consisting of a large drum, a shimedaiko, a small drum, and a flute. There are three types of musical accompaniment: “Ayumi-daiko” (walking drums) when the floats parade through each town, “Yasumi-daiko” (resting drums) when the floats are resting, and “Kenka-daiko” (fighting drums) when the floats collide with each other, representing a typical day at the festival.
