Dancers move energetically as taiko drums and gongs ring out!Kagura, a show featuring ancient Shinto music and dancing, which has been passed down in various regionsThis is delightful folk entertainment that is widely enjoyed from southern Iwate to northern Miyagi. It consists in a theatrical form of Kagura with dialogue, and in the city of Ichinoseki there are more than 20 areas that have inherited forms such as Fusa Kagura, Nanbu Kagura and Takkotaikagura. Typical performances include mythological stories such as “Opening Amano Iwato, The Heavenly Stone Cave” and plays such as the Tale of the Heike. The dancers recite their lines in a clear voice and dance to the sound of taiko drums and gongs.
