Passed down for over 130 years by fishermen! Kabuki performances of a fishing village welcoming spring in the Shimokita Peninsula.The Fukuura District in Sai Village is a fishing town located on the coast of the Shimokita Peninsula. Ever since Kamigata Kabuki actor Kikugoro Nakamura and his wife Kikumatsu visited this area in around 1890 and taught “Fukuura Kabuki”, it has been popular among fishermen who had minimal exposure to entertainment and culture, and passed down for over 130 years. It has been handed down through a hereditary system where one role per household is played. At the special presentation of the Fukuura Inari Shrine Festival held at the House of Kabuki, rustic but nonetheless powerful and exciting performances are given in a warm atmosphere, watched over by the local residents.Hachinohe burns bright for five days! A dazzling float parade and vibrant festival musicThe festival is held simultaneously at three shrines in the city of Hachinohe: Ogami Shrine, Chojasan Shinra Shrine, and Shinmeigu Shrine over five days from July 31 to August 4 each year. The highlight is a parade of 27 spectacular floats that accompany the portable shrine processions of the three shrines. The elaborately decorated floats are newly created each year, and attract visitors with a wide variety of effects, such as dolls that rise up and reach left and right.
