Decorating the nights of the World Heritage site of Shiretoko Spectacular fan-shaped Neputa floats depicting warriors! One of the three major Andon lantern festivals of Hokkaido, this festival stems from Hirosaki Neputa, which was once kept secret but later introduced here after cultural exchanges with the friendship city of Hirosaki in Aomori Prefecture. From 7 p.m. on both days, over twelve fan-shaped “Neputa” Andon lanterns, both large and small, are carried through the main street of Shari Town to the shouts of “Yayado!” Extravagant Neputa lanterns with vivid drawings of warriors on them and a grand ensemble of beautiful Neputa music showcase the summer night of the World Heritage site of Shiretoko. The Hirosaki Fair, where local products of Hirosaki City are sold, will also be held at the Shari road station. The faces on the dancer’s stomachs move as they dance! This summer tradition brings fun to Furano. This is a traditional summer activity that brings a lot of fun to Furano City, which is known as the “Belly button” of Hokkaido for its stone monument marking the center of the Prefecture. Starting at 7 pm on both performance nights, dancers perform the comical “Belly Button of the Northern Sea” dance with faces painted on their belly buttons. The amusing faces are created in the style of various types of art such as kabuki, and Japanese animation. The dancers entertain the audience by twisting their stomachs around. The faces are judged for their beauty and other attributes, and receive awards in various categories. People can even decide to join on the day of the performance. There are various special events including runoffs on who did the best performance, local specialty markets, and more. It is quite a lively atmosphere!Date:Third Friday of July and the following dayPlace:Square in front of the Shari town office, mainstreet of the townTrain: About 5 min. on foot from JR Shiretoko-Shari Station (Square in front of the Shari town office)Friendship City Hirosaki Neputa Shari Preservation SocietyDate:July 28-29Place:Shin-aioi-dori Shopping Street, other.Train: About 3 min. on foot from JR Furano StationHokkai Heso Festival Executive Committee開催日:7月第3金曜日と翌日場所:斜里町役場前広場、町内目抜き通り電車:JR「知床斜里駅」から徒歩約5分(斜里町役場前広場)友好都市弘前ねぷた斜里保存会 0152-23-3131開催日:7月28日・29日場所:新相生通り商店街 他電車:JR「富良野駅」より徒歩約3分北海へそ祭り実行委員会0167-39-2312道の駅しゃり交流広場で行われる「ねぷたフェスティバル」では、祭りの囃子方が一堂に集まり演奏する。Festival musicians all gather to perform at the Neputa Festival at the Shari road station exchange plaza.お腹に図腹を描いたら、頭と両腕は笠で隠し、腕に見立てた棒を腰に結んで踊る。体形により味わいが異なるのもゆかい。Once they have the face painted on their stomach, the dancers hide their heads and arms with conical hats and, in place of their arms, attach a stick to their waists as they dance.
