There are no rules at the festival, except that you must dance with “Naruko” in your hands, which are also used in Yosakoi Festival, and include Soranbushi phrases in the songs. Dancers perform with originality, using a variety of songs, costumes, and themes. About 255 teams of dancers gather from all over Japan and even from overseas. During the five days of the festival, dancers will tour and perform their dances in the streets of Sapporo,filled with the festival atmosphere. During the festival, many spectators come from all over the country to enjoy the energetic performance of the dancers in the refreshing early summer of Sapporo. In addition to watching the dances, “Kita-no-fudo Park,” where visitors can taste local specialties from all over Japan, is held every day.
