Though simple, the power of their movements deeply stirs the hearts of all who watch.際に奉納される。戦国時代、城主佐伯惟治が討ち死にした際、戦で生き残った重臣が、野草で包んだ槍先に野花を挿して女道化師に変装し、鉦太鼓を打ち踊りながら敵陣を脱出したといわれ、そのときの踊りを楽化にしたのが千束楽で、元々は女装で踊っていたが、明治以降政府の祭政一致の方針に基づき神格化され、白衣・浴衣に変わった。締太鼓を胸から吊るし、赤鉢巻、浴衣、紙緒草履などで着飾った演者たちが、さらに花飾りを付けた2メートル程の竹竿を背負って、鉦、太鼓に合わせて優雅に踊る。この独特の装束は、その昔、敵陣に残された武士たちが脱出した際の伝説に由来する。千束楽は400年以上の歴史を有し、鳶野尾神社の祭礼の際に、五穀豊穣に感謝するため佐伯市宇目地区で行われている「八匹原祭典」において奉納されている。この祭りでは、千束楽のほか、舞、神楽等も奉納される。A dance of Sengoku spirit, woven with history and vitalitySenzokugaku is offered during the festival of Tobinoo Shrine, located in the Senzoku area of Ume, Saiki City, on the third Saturday and Sunday of September each year. During the Sengoku period, when the castle lord Saeki Koreharu was killed in battle, it is said that one of his surviving retainers disguised himself as a female jester by placing wildflowers on the tip of a spear wrapped in wild grass, and escaped from the enemy camp while dancing and beating gongs and drums. That dance later developed into Senzokugaku, which was originally performed in female costume, but after the Meiji era, under the government’s policy of uniting religion and state, it was elevated to a sacred performance and the costumes were changed to white robes and yukata. The performers, adorned with red headbands, yukata, and straw sandals with paper thongs, hang barrel drums from their chests and dance gracefully to the rhythm of gongs and drums, while carrying on their backs bamboo poles about two meters long decorated with flowers. This distinctive costume derives from the legend of warriors making their escape from the enemy camp. Senzokugaku has a history of more than 400 years and is offered at the Hachihikibaru Festival, held in the Ume district of Saiki City as part of the Tobinoo Shrine festivities, to give thanks for a bountiful harvest.
