Please check the latest information before planning your visit. い さ は や い さ は や さら お どNonnoko Isahaya Matsuri (Isayaha Nonnoko Plate Dance)”Nonnoko” means ‘cute’ in the Isahaya dialect. “Nonnokobushi” is a celebratory song for the audience danced while clapping two small plates between the fingers of each hand at a banquet. It is said that the original form of this song was danced with plates in the hands after hard labor such as carrying mud up from the mud flats. The original title of the Nonnokobushi is “Shiba ni naritaya Hakone no shiba ni,” and it is thought that its origin goes back to “Hakone magouta, Nagamochi uta,” which was renamed “Nonnokobushi” after the musical phrase “Nonnokosaisai“. The highlight of the festival is the “Nonnoko Machi Odori” held on the first day of the main festival. Many groups of companies and schools in the city participate in this dance, and the dancers perform “Isahaya Nonnokobushi (plate dancing),” a folk song that has been handed down since the Edo period. They dance with two small plates in each hand, clinking them and parading around the arcade and the central exchange plaza in front of the city hall.
