All of Nagasaki Port is filled with excitement! A valiant boat race that has been held for over 360 years.The first traditional Chinese PERON boat race at Nagasaki Port was held in 1655. It is said to have started when a group of Chinese people living here held a ceremony for a Chinese ship that was wrecked at the port. The highlight of the event is the final race between selected teams from various areas. 26 rowers get on the roughly 14-meter-long boats and race over a distance of 1,150 meters. The boats stir up white waves to the beat of drums and gongs over the water.
