Giant floats and streamers stretch over the river at the Yamakasa festival ー One of the Five Great Festivals of Fukuoka Prefecture ーThis traditional festival, which has been perpetuated since the 16th century, is included amongst the Five Great Festivals of Fukuoka Prefecture. Two gorgeously embellished portable shrines from Fujihachinagu and Shiratori Shrine, and ten Nobori Yamakasa decorated in five colors, wind their way through the town accompanied by spirited calls. Perhaps the most spectacular part of this festival is the crossing of the river of the large portable shrines and Nobori Yamakasa floats featuring colorful streamers; it is truly a sight to see as they boldly wind their way through the rapids in a heated competition.
