Please check the latest information before planning your visit.ホームページ ▶ https://www.city.tosa.lg.jp開催日：毎年11月3日場所：土佐市蓮池西ノ宮八幡宮電車・バス:JR四国「土讃線 伊野駅」バスとさでん交通高岡営業所下車、徒歩25分／車:高知自動車道「土佐IC」5分土佐市教育委員会生涯学習課 088-852-7696Date：November 3rd every yearPlace：Hasuike Nishinomiya Hachimangu, Tosa CityTrain / Bus: 25-min. walk from the Takaoka Office bus stop on the Tosaden Kotsu Bus from Ino Station on the JR Shikoku Dosan Line / Car: 5 min. from Tosa IC on the Kochi ExpresswayTosa City Board of Education Lifelong Learning Division 088-852-7696白刀が太陽にきらめき、紙吹雪が、深まり行く秋の紅葉の中に乱れ散る。Silver swords glint in the sunlight, while white confetti scatters in the deepening autumn foliage 朝時代に武将の戦勝を祝い奉納したことが起源といわれ、約700年の歴史を誇る踊る土佐を象徴する民俗芸能である。袴に、襷掛け、白鉢巻姿の太刀を持った8〜14人の青年が、天狗面に続いて列をなして進み、2人が相対して横列で、見事な太刀さばきを見せて踊る。クライマックスでは、一人が構えた剣にもう一人が紙束を当てにいくことで白い紙吹雪が舞う。真剣で紙花を切り、紙吹雪を散らす男たちの勇壮な踊りである。演目は、ごほう、くずし、車太刀等13通りあり、刀のほか太刀を持って踊る演目もある。踊り子の中に鉦1人、締太鼓1人がおり、音頭の歌詞は各演目で異なる。南北朝時代に武将が八幡宮に戦勝の報告を行った際に、祝賀行事として即興的に奉納したのが起源であるともいわれている。Male dancers wield swords as they dance amongst striking white confettiThe Hasuike sword dance, held annually on November 3rd, is performed at, Nishinomiya Hachimangu Shrine, Hasuike, Tosa City, during the shrine’s fall festival. It is believed to have its roots in celebratory offerings commemorating wins for military commanders during the Nanboku-cho Period. Boasting a about 700-year history, this folk art dance is a symbol of Tosa. From eight to fourteen youths holding thick swords dressed in traditional hakama and sashes, along with white headbands, move forward following the Tengu mask, in horizontal pairs opposite each other. It is an eye-catching display of swordplay combined with dance. The climax of the dance happens with one person holding a sword, and the other holding paper. The swordsman cuts through the paper to make confetti. It is a magnificent dance in which men cut paper flowers with real swords, scattering paper confetti. The full program includes 13 dance performances known as goho, kuzushi, kurumatachi, and more, featuring both short and long swords. Amongst the dancers is one person striking a gong while another is hitting a drum, and the introductory lyrics differ with each performance.
