It is also the general name for the annual festivals of four shrines in the city: Kamo Shrine, Iwaoka Shrine, Isono Shrine, and Iizumi Shrine. Each shrine holds its own annual festival in mid-October every year. Overall, considerably more than a hundred yatai (floats) (danjiri, mikoshi, and taiko drum stands) are used for each town in Saijo City. and the number of floats is said to be the largest in Japan. During the festival, the floats, decorated with carvings of warriors, flowers and birds, are lined up in rows, and the sound of drums and gongs, as well as the Ise Ondo dance song, echo through the town. The festival is a gorgeous and spectacular sight that attracts many tourists.
