Kagura is a traditional performance passed down in the Nanyo region of Ehime Prefecture, is performed exclusively by male Shinto priests.Kagura is a form of Shinto music and dance widely practiced at shrines in the city of Uwajima and the Kitauwa district of Ehime. At each annual festival, performances are dedicated to the gods of their respective shrine. It is a rare form of dance, also known as okanko-shikoku kagura, that is only performed by male priests. There are 35 performances in total, originally performed from night to morning, but this number has been reduced in recent years to make it easier for audiences to enjoy the spectacle. The graceful Shintai Uzume no Mai (Divine Body) Dance, which is offered as a prayer for peace, and Hitaki no Mai (Fire) Dance, which uses blazing torches, are both worth seeing.A hot springs town that has been cherished since ancient times is heating up!Enjoy extravagant dances, rice cake throwing, and more.A festival marking the beginning of spring at Dogo Onsen, which is one of Japan’s three ancient hot springs.
