Saotome women plant rice seedlings while singing to the beat of taiko drums, which are played by the Master drummers.県備北地方。この辺りに伝わる供養田植のなかでも最も古い形を残しているとされるのが、4年ごとに現地公開される庄原市塩原地区の「塩原の大山供養田植」で、神社横の供養棚を牛が通る「棚くぐり」により、不慮の死にあった牛馬の霊を供養し、現在飼育している牛馬の安全と五穀豊穣・家内安全を祈念する。花笠をかぶった早乙女たちによる「田植踊り」や、飾り付けられた牛たちが田をかきならす「しろかき」などが行われる。庄原市の小奴可（おぬか）地区芸能保存会は、伝承教室を開催し、保存・伝承、後継者育成に努めているほか、現地公開やイベントの出演により多くの観光客を集め、小奴可地域や庄原市の伝統文化のPRを図り貴重な文化伝承資源として保存継承することにより、地域の活性化に貢献している。Taiko drums and songs echo through the beautiful countryside! The “Shiobara’s Daisen Memorial Service Rice Planting”, which is held in the Shiobara area of Shobara City every four years, is said to be the oldest of all the offering rice-planting ceremonies in this area. In the “Tanakuguri” ceremony, cattle pass through the memorial shelves next to the shrine to offer to the spirits of cattle and horses that have died unexpectedly, and to pray for the safety of the cattle and horses currently being raised, as well as for a good harvest and household safety. The “ Rice Planting Dance” performed by Saotome women wearing hanagasa hats and the “ Shirokaki” in which decorated oxen stir the rice paddies are also performed. The Onuka Area Performing Arts Preservation Society of Shobara City is making efforts to preserve and hand down the tradition and train successors by holding classes to hand down the tradition.
