The tournaments are held three times a year: the “Summer Tournament” on August 15th, the “Hassaku Dedication Bull Wrestling Tournament” in early September, and the “Ichiyagadake Dedication Bull Wrestling Tournament” in mid-October. Each one is held in various locations around the town of Okinoshima. The fight does not come to an end until one of the bulls escapes, and sometimes it can be an intense battle that lasts for over an hour. The weight of the Yokozuna-class bulls exceeds 1,000 kg, and the sight of them violently slamming their huge bodies into the fray is truly gripping.Gods from all across Japan including the Dragon-snake god gather at Izumo once a year to talk!The tenth month in the traditional Japanese calendar, when the gods leave their shrines to congregate at Izumo, is called “Kannazuki” (the month when there are no gods) all across Japan, but it is called “Kamiarizuki” (the month when the gods are present) in Izumo, where they are all gathered.
