開催日：毎年9月最終土曜日「因幡の傘踊りの祭典」場所：鳥取市因幡万葉歴史館電車・車:JR西日本「山陰本線 鳥取駅」から車約15分車:中国自動車道・鳥取自動車道「鳥取IC」から約15分鳥取市国府町総合支所地域振興課 0857-30-8652Date：Last Saturday of September every year – “Inaba Umbrella Dance Festival”Place：Inaba Manyo History Museum, Tottori CityTrain/Car: About 15 minutes from Tottori Station on the JR Sanin Line (West Japan Railway)By Car: About 15 minutes from Tottori IC on the Chugoku Expressway / Tottori ExpresswayRegional Promotion Division, Kokufu Town General Branch Office, Tottori City 0857-30-8652長柄の傘を回転させながら剣舞のように舞う踊りは勇壮かつ華やかで美しい。T h e p e r f o r m e r s s p i n l o n g - h a n d l e d umbrellas in the form of a sword dance, a soul-stirring, splendid and beautiful sight.彩色した長柄の傘を使い、揃いの浴衣に手甲脚絆、白鉢巻、白たすきの凛々しい姿で、唄に合わせて傘を回転させながら振り回す、勇壮で動きの激しい踊りである。踊り手は偶数の複数人で、傘の振りを統一しリズム化するため、傘でひらがなの文字を書くように工夫されている。また、高低の変化をつけるため、高い姿勢の鶴と低い姿勢の亀の姿態ポーズを取り入れ、剣舞をアレンジして、傘を開いて、気合とともに斬り込みながら踊る。江戸時代末期、因幡地方が大旱魃になったとき、五郎作という老農夫が三日三晩冠笠を振り回して雨乞い祈願したところ大雨が降ったが、五郎作翁がその疲労がもとで亡くなったため、その慰霊に村人が笠で踊ったことが因幡の傘踊りの起源といわれている。明治時代に国府町の山本徳次郎が、若者の賭博に代わる娯楽として剣舞を取り入れた長柄の傘による勇壮活発な傘踊りを考案して、これが各地に受け継がれ、現在の形になった。A brave and lively dance modeled on the sword dance to soothe the souls of the dead, in honor of GorosakuThe Inaba Umbrella Dance is a soul-stirring and dynamic traditional dance in Kokufu, Tottori City and other parts of eastern Tottori Prefecture, in which performers carry long-handled, brightly colored umbrellas adorned with about 100 small bells. They swing the umbrellas around while rotating in time with the music, looking dignified in matching yukata robes, hand and leg protectors, white headbands, and white sashes. There is an even number of dancers, and the umbrella movements are choreographed to mimic Japanese writing. all of which unify and create rhythm for the dance. In order to add height variations, the dancer incorporates the poses of a long-legged crane as well as a short-legged turtle, and simulates sword dance by opening an umbrella and slashing it with great force. At the end of the Edo period, the Inaba region was hit by a severe drought. An old farmer named Gorosaku prayed for rain for three days and three nights, waving a crown-shaped hat, and as a result, it rained heavily. Exhausted, Gorosaku passed away, and it is said that the umbrella dance comes from Inaba villagers dancing with hats to commemorate the deceased man. In the Meiji era, Tokujiro Yamamoto of Kokufu devised lively and energetic umbrella dances with long-handled umbrellas that incorporated sword dances, as alternative entertainment to gambling for young people.
