The festival would serve as a spiritual center for the citizens of Himeji, aiming at the rebirth of Himeji. Since then, the festival has overcome many difficulties and undergone various changes to become one of the largest festivals in Himeji City, boasting a history of over 70 years. The festival is held over three days, with the first day being a day of traditional culture, featuring the “Himeji Castle Takigi Noh Play,” a Noh play performed against the backdrop of the fantastic illuminated white “Himeji Castle“. The second day is a day of friendship, with a “parade” of various costumes and performances marching down Otemae-dori Avenue, south of Himeji Castle. One of the highlights of the parade is the Himeji Daimyo Gyoretsu, with costumes and tools based on illustrations from the late Edo period. In addition, about 1,000 people will dance to traditional folk songs such as “Banshu Danmon Ondo” and “Himeji Oshiro Odori” to celebrate Himeji Castle, and many other events for the purpose of exchange will be held on the same day.
