A battle between sagicho floats for honor and glory! An unusual festival in which Oda Nobunaga is said to have dancedOda Nobunaga himself is said to have danced in the Omihachiman Sagicho Festival, clad in gaudy attire. Sagicho are floats that include large torches of approximately three meters in size that are woven out of straw. These torches have green bamboo standing on them and are beautifully decorated with red paper and other things. In particular, the so-called “fights” that occur when the sagicho violently ram into each other are especially spectacular. “Se nosse!” the participants shout as the sagicho crash into each other, emitting earth-shaking sounds with each collision. As the green bamboo creaks, almost as if it will break under the force of each impact, the excitement of the onlookers reaches a fever pitch. The grounds of the shrine reverberate with the sounds of taiko drums, flutes and shouts!Enjoy the traditional dances to bring rain and dance offerings, which have continued for 1300 years.A folk performing art dedicated to Hachiman Shrine, located in Asahi, Maibara. This was held during droughts in the past to pray for rain and a bountiful harvest and was also a dance to express gratitude for the rain. The dancers, both adults and children, wear traditional Japanese hats, red overshirts as well as striped pleated hakama trousers, and beat drums held to their chests. They parade through the town, singing and dancing to the flutes and bells, towards Hachiman Shrine. They make a circular formation within the grounds of the shrine and give the dance as an offering. Enjoy the cheerful sounds of taiko drums, flutes, and shouts. 0748-33-6061Date:Every year on the Saturday and Sunday closest to March 14 and 15Place:Himure Hachiman-gu and the surrounding areaTrain/bus: Take an Ohmi Railway bus from JR Omi-Hachiman Station to Chomei-ji Temple, and then walk about 10 minutes from the Gakuen-mae Temporary bus stopOmi-Hachiman Station North Exit Tourist Information Center開催日:毎年10月上旬の日曜日場所:八幡神社(滋賀県米原市朝日1472)車:北陸自動車道「米原I.C.」より車で約15分一般社団法人びわ湖の素DMO 0749-51-9082Date:On Sundays within the first ten days of October every yearPlace:Hachiman Shrine (1472 Asahi, Maibara, Shiga Prefecture)By car: Approximately 15 minutes by car from the Maibara Interchange on the Hokuriku ExpresswayLake Biwa Destination Marketing Organization最終日の夜には、左義長を燃やす「奉火」が行われる。火柱を上げて激しく燃え上がる左義長のまわりを勇壮に舞う様子は、まさに壮観。Hoka, the ritualistic burning of the sagicho, is done on the last night of the festival.
