The audience applauds the enthusiastic performances that rival those of adults!絢爛豪華な曳山と子ども歌舞伎は近江の春の風物詩長浜曳山祭は約400年以上の歴史を持ち、京都の祇園祭、高山市の高山祭と並んで日本三大山車祭の一つに数えられることもある。長浜を開町した当時の長浜城主であった羽柴（豊臣）秀吉が男子誕生を喜び、その祝いに町人に砂金を贈りそれを基に山車を作って曳き回したのがはじまりと言われている。ただ、実際には戦乱で荒廃した長濱八幡宮を再興するに当り、秀吉が八幡宮ゆかりの源義家の凱旋の様子を再現した太刀（たち）渡り（武者行列）がはじまりと見られる。この太刀渡りは長刀組に受け継がれ、現在では金色の幣帛(へいはく)を先頭に母衣(ほろ)を纏い大太刀を持った武者、化粧まわしをした力士の勇壮な行列が渡り、その後、曳山の上で子ども歌舞伎が演じられる。祭の最大の見どころは５歳から１２歳の男の子が演じる歌舞伎。動く美術館といわれる絢爛豪華な曳山の上で演じられる子ども歌舞伎の競演は、まさに近江（滋賀県）の春の風物詩である。辻 清氏（金工師）、樋口安彦（塗師）、渡邊嘉久氏（塗師）は令和4年度地域伝統芸能大賞支援賞受賞Gorgeous floats and children’s kabuki- a springtime tradition in OmiThe Nagahama Hikiyama Festival has a history of more than 400 years, and is often ranked as one of the three most important float festivals in Japan, along with the Gion Festival in Kyoto and the Takayama Festival in Takayama City. It is said that the festival began when Hideyoshi Hashiba (Toyotomi), the lord of Nagahama Castle at the time when Nagahama was founded, was so pleased with the birth of his son that he gave gold sand to the townspeople and used it to make floats to pull around the city in celebration. However, the actual origin of the festival is believed to be the Tachi-watari (Samurai procession), a reenactment of the triumphant return of Minamoto Yoshiie when Hideyoshi was rebuilding Nagahama Hachimangu Shrine, which had been devastated in the war. The Tachi-watari has been succeeded by the Nagatogumi, and today, the golden shinto offering of cloth leads the procession of warriors with big swords, wearing a horo cloak, and sumo wrestlers wearing an ornamental apron, followed by a children’s Kabuki performance on the floats. The highlight of the festival is the kabuki performed by boys between the ages of 5 and 12.
