Please check the latest information before planning your visit.華な車山（やま）と3つの練り物が人々を楽しませる。寛永12年（1635年）に犬山城の麓の針綱 神社の祭礼として始まる。当初は馬の塔などの練り物で参列していたが、その後、車山となり、人形からくりを奉納し、19世紀前半には今日のような形が出来上がった。城下町の辻々でくり広げられる豪快などんでんや車切り、変化に富んだからくり演技は見る人を飽きさせない。夜は、各車山に万燈の提灯に火が灯され、満開の桜並木の城下町を練り歩くさまは幻想的で、まるで絵巻物を見ているようだ。尾張地方では祭礼に曳き出される祭車は「山車（だし）」と呼ばれるが、犬山では「車山（やま）」と呼び、構造は全て３層である。高さ約8mの車山（やま）はまさに「動く山（やま）」で、力自慢の若者が車山を曳き、金襦袢で着飾った子供がお囃子を奏でる、勇壮で豪華絢爛な祭である。A festival that shows the long history of Inuyama and the culture of its peopleInuyama Festival consists in the unfolding of a historical picture scroll, which takes place at the foot of Inuyama Castle during the cherry blossom season. Thirteen gorgeous carriages called yama, carrying karakuri dolls and three nerimono processions, entertain the audience. The festival began in 1635 as a festival of Haritsuna Shrine at the foot of Inuyama Castle. In the beginning, it was attended by nerimono processions such as the horse tower. Later, it became Yama, and a karakuri puppet was dedicated to the shrine. By the first half of the 19th century, it had taken on the form it has today. The dynamic changes of direction called “donden” or “kuruma-giri”, which unfold at a street corner of the castle town, and the varied karakuri performances never tire the audience. When night falls, the lanterns are lit on each of the floats, and the parade marching through the castle town lined with cherry trees in full bloom is fantastic, almost like watching a picture scroll. In the Owari region, floats pulled during the festival are called “dashi,” but in Inuyama, they are called “yama,” and all are three-storied.
