Please check the latest information before planning your visit.ホームページ ▶ http://anjomikawamanzai.sakura.ne.jp/index.html太夫の軽妙な語り口と、才蔵の巧みな鼓の演奏による掛け合いが三河万歳の最大の魅力。The great charm of Mikawa Manzai is the contrast between its lighthearted talking component (Taiyu) and dramatic drum accompaniment (Saizo).れを祝福する伝統芸能である。三河万歳の起源には諸説があるが、室町時代には畿内の万歳が現在の安城市・西尾市に伝わっていた。三河万歳は、三河を支配した徳川家の庇護を受け、江戸期には、元旦の江戸城開門の儀式をはじめ、関東17カ国の巡回の権利を得る等隆盛を極めた。三河万歳は、17世紀後半に仏教色の濃い陰陽道を家職とする土御門家の支配下に組み入れられたことから、明治期に入り、廃仏毀釈運動の中で苦難の時代を迎えるが、装束や詞を神道風に改め、「神道三河万歳」として、関東各地を巡業するまでになった。現在は、「神道三河万歳」の3演目（三羽鶴の舞、七草の舞、天の岩戸開きの舞）のほか、大正期以降三河に伝わった「御殿万歳」（七福神の舞）と「三曲万歳」（鼓・三味線・胡弓の三楽器を使う）が演じられている。舞の中には滑稽な要素も含むが、総じてゆったりとした祝言の色彩の強い内容で、祝福芸としての万歳の古い形式をよく伝えるものである。Welcome to the world of the ancient capital: the tradition of celebratory storytelling, and welcoming the new yearMikawa Manzai consists of dances accompanied by celebratory songs and recitations for welcoming the new year performed by pairs of entertainers known as “Taiyu” and “Saizo.” There are various theories as to its origins, but it is known that Kinai-region Manzai was brought to present-day Anjo City and Nishio City during the Muromachi Period. Mikawa Mansai was permitted under the Tokugawa Clan, which ruled over Mikawa. It grew in popularity during the Edo period, when its performers were provided permission to travel around the 17 provinces of Kanto, giving such performances as the Edo Castle New Year’s Day ceremonies. During the latter half of the 1600s, Mikawa Manzai was placed under the jurisdiction of the Tsuchimikado family, which was engaged in the Buddhism-influenced Onmyodo (yin-and-yang divination system). As such, it fell on hard times during the anti-Buddhism movement of the Meiji Period. At the time it was recognized as “Shinto Mikawa Manzai,” featuring lyrics and costumes to suit the Shinto tradition. The performers made their way around the Kanto region. At present, Shinto Mikawa Manzai features three plays called “Dance of the Three Cranes”, “Dance of the Seven Herbs”, and “Dance of Opening Amano Iwato (Heavenly Stone Cave)”, as well as plays known as “Goten Manzai” (Dance of the Seven Lucky Gods) and “Three-Accompaniment Manzai” (incorporating drums, shamisen, and kokyu instruments), which date back from the Taisho Period onward.
