It is said that Joenin, the mother of the 8th shogun Yoshimune Tokugawa, passed through the road in the 18th century as well as Atsuhime, the official wife of the 13th shogun Iesada Tokugawa in the 19th century. Himesama Dochu is a traditional ritual that recreates the processions of those times. The Bugaku of Okuni Shrine and Amamiya Shrine are said to have been transmitted from the capital of Nara about 1,300 years ago and is characterized by dances performed mainly by children (chigo). On the other hand, the Bugaku of Yamana Shrine differs in style and preserves the traditions of the Gion Goryo-e rituals from medieval Kyoto, often featuring dances with animal themes.
