Hakusan.もの。その起源は、717（養老元）年6月18日、泰澄大師の白山開山を迎えにいった地元の人々が、彼の帰還をよろこんで、カンコ（蚊遣火）をふり、踊りまわったという伝承が残されてる。名称の由来については諸説ありますが、カンコと呼ばれる褐鼓（かっこ）ふうの太鼓に合わせて踊るからとの説が、現在では有力と考えられている。今日では、7月に開催される「白山まつり」で、地元の子どもからお年寄り、さらに観光客らも一緒に踊る。踊りの輪にカンコ打ちが加わり、美しい歌詞、かん高いカンコの響き、雌子詞（はやしことば）が相まって観衆を魅了する。保存会では、子どもたちに踊りを指導して後継者を育成するなど、祭りを盛り上げることで観光振興と地域の賑わいに貢献している。A majestic dance nurtured by the faith of Mt. Hakusan, with a heartbeat that echoes across time. The Kanko Dance is an ancient dance passed down in the Shiramine district at the foot of Mt. Hakusan, with a majestic melody that evokes the magnificence of the sacred mountain, Mt. Hakusan. Its origins are said to date back to June 18, 717, when the local people welcomed Taichō Daishi upon his return after opening Mt. Hakusan and founding a temple at the top. It is said that they joyfully waved kanko (mosquito-repelling incense) and danced around in celebration. While there are various theories about the origin of the dance’s name, the most widely accepted explanation is that it comes from the fact that the dance is performed to the rhythm of the kanko drum, a type of drum resembling a kakko drum. Today, the dance is performed by local children, elderly people, and tourists during the Hakusan Festival held in July. The circle of dancers is joined by kanko drum players, and the combination of beautiful lyrics, the high-pitched sound of the kanko, and hayashi kotoba (festival chants) captivate the audience.
