Traditional events, such as the gorgeous Hyakumangoku procession, are lively and colorful. The “Kaga Firefighter Ladder Acrobatics” is one such event. During the Edo period (1603-1867), the shogunate ordered the feudal lords of Edo to form a fire fighting organization. The fifth lord of the Kaga domain, Tsunanori, started the “Kaga Tobi,” created by enlarging the size of the fire brigade at the Hongo Kami-yashiki in Edo, and their skills were handed down to the present day.
