Huge and gorgeous lanterns floating in the dark night!A powerful fight festival where two grand lanterns clash.A rice field festival event held in prayer for a year of full harvest that has been passed down for ages in the Tonami region of Toyama Prefecture. It is held from 8 p.m. to around midnight and the roughly 15 bright red lanterns standing about six meters tall being pulled down the streets to the shouts of “Yoiyasa! Yoiyasa!” captivate the spectators. On the first day is a competition where the great lanterns, which differ from town to town, all gather and try to outdo each other. The sight of the huge and extravagant lanterns lined up next to each other is spectacular. On the second day is an event where two grand lanterns clash.Witness large torches as they are lit and sent out to sea!A purification ritual to get rid of sleepiness and other impuritiesThe Namerikawa Torch Festival is held every year on July 31 in Namerikawa City, Toyama Prefecture. This traditional event features large torches. Each one is made of bundled straw and stands at an impressive height of around five meters. These torches are carried to the Nakagawara Coast (Wada Beach) and then stood on rafts made of wood. As the sun sets, the torches are lit, bathing the dark waves of the sea in reddish light as dusk settles. The sight of around ten large torches heading out to sea against the backdrop of the sun setting behind the Noto Peninsula is simultaneously dreamlike and deeply impressive.Date:Second Friday of June and the following Saturday every yearPlace: Midtown Tonami City (around the station)Train: About 1 min. on foot from JR Tonami Station*Closed to vehicular traffic from 6 p.m. until the end of the festivitiesClosing hours are subject to change.Tonami Yotaka Promotion Association 0763-33-2109 *In the Tonami Chamber of Commerce and IndustryDate:Every year on July 31Place:Nakagawara Coast (Wada Beach)Train: About eight minutes on foot from Namerikawa Station, which is on the Ainokaze Toyama RailwayNamerikawa City Museum開催日:毎年6月第2金曜日と次の土曜日場所:砺波市街地(駅前周辺)電車:JR「砺波駅」より徒歩約1分※18時から終了まで一般車両は通行止め予定・通行止め時間は変更の可能性あり砺波夜高振興会 0763-33-2109 ※砺波商工会議所内開催日:毎年7月31日場所:中川原海岸(和田の浜)電車:あいの風とやま鉄道「滑川駅」より徒歩約8分滑川市立博物館076-474-92002日目の「突き合わせ」は大行燈同士が激しくぶつかり合い、祭りが一気にヒートアップ。喧嘩祭りと呼ばれる所以。The event where the grand lanterns clash on the second day livens up the festivities.
