A feast of beauty brought forth by tradition and craftsmanshipTechniques such as lacquer work, metalwork, as well as dyeing and weaving have developed since ancient times in Takaoka, a city of craftsmanship. The glittering floats are the culmination of these skills, as they parade through the city accompanied by music. The floats, which are up to about 8.5 meters in height, are decorated with lavish ornaments, from the five-pronged bell mounting to the wheels and guard rails. The festival highlight is the lining up ceremony, when all seven floats assemble in one place. The magnificent sight of the gorgeous designs is overwhelming to behold.Festival floats parade sacred statues through the town! Experience the glorious and exuberant liveliness of the townspeople!The festival brings the colorful merchant culture of Johana to the present day. Six splendid floats parade through the town, bearing sacred statues, lion dance performances, and portable shrines. Atmospheric Iori songs are sung alongside shamisen music inside the Iori floats (floats with a model of an Edo-era restaurant or establishment on top) at the front of the festival floats, adding even more color to the festivities. The festival floats are known as “gyuyama” by local people, a name derived from the creaking sound of the wheels. The floats are lit up with soft light, and appear to float in the night sky, producing a magical beauty.曳山巡行の前日は「宵祭」として、御神像がその年の山番の家に飾られる。街歩きを楽しみながら観覧したい。The night before the float parade is known as Yoimatsuri, which is a small festival preceding the main one.
