About a 10-minute walk to the hot spring town and Bessho Shrine.Ueda City Board of Education, Lifelong Learning and Cultural Properties Division: 0268-23-6362Bessho Onsen Tourism Association: 0268-38-3510「岳の幟」 色鮮やかな反物を幟に仕立て、山から里へ巡る雨乞いの祭り別所温泉岳の幟行事とは、室町時代の大干ばつに、村人が夫神岳（おがみだけ）に登り雨乞いをしたところ、雨が降りだしたことから、山頂に龍神を祀り、各家で織った布を奉納するようになったのが始まりといわれ、520年以上続いている雨乞いの祭り。早朝に夫神岳の頂上に祀られた「龗”オカミ”」九頭龍神の祠に反物を供え、住民代表が神事を行った後、昇り龍、降り龍の幟を先頭に70本もの幟が山を下る。麓で別所神社の神主、氏子総代や三頭獅子とささら踊りの一行と合流して温泉街を一巡、地区内４箇所および別所神社で獅子舞い、ささら踊りを奉納する。【ささら踊り】花笠をかぶった女児（小学生）で舞われる。ささらは「スリザサラ(一端から30cm程を細く裂いた竹棒)」とのこぎり状の竹棒で構成され、道行や入退場は柄を打ちながら歩き、舞になると持ち替えて、ささらを摺り合わせる振りになる。伴奏は笛と太鼓。太鼓は2本の竹に据え付けられた締太鼓を男児が打ち、それに「ささら唄」が女児によって、可愛らしく歌われる。【三頭獅子】ささら踊りが終わって退場の「道行」の楽に乗って、三頭獅子が続けて登場する。緑色の男獅子2頭、赤色の女獅子1頭で構成されている。"Take-no-nobori" — Colorful fabrics are fashioned into flags and carried from the mountains to the villages in a rain-praying festival.The Bessho Onsen Take Flag Festival is said to have originated during a severe drought in the Muromachi period, when villagers climbed Mt. Ogamidake to pray for rain, and rain miraculously began to fall. As a result, they began to enshrine the Dragon God at the summit and offer cloth woven by each household. The festival has continued for over 520 years.Early in the morning, residents present the fabrics at the shrine of “Okami”, Kuzuryu God at the summit of Mt. Ogamidake. After the ritual is conducted by a representative of the residents, 70 flags—led by the “Ascending Dragon” and “Descending Dragon” flags—descend the mountain. At the foot, the procession joins the priests of Bessho Shrine, the head of the parishioners, and the three lions and Sasara dance troupe, parading through the hot spring town and performing lion dances and Sasara dances at four locations within the district and at Bessho Shrine.Sasara Dance — Performed by girls (elementary school students) wearing flower hats. The Sasara consists of Surizasara (bamboo sticks split into thin strips about 30 cm long) and saw-shaped bamboo sticks. During the procession and when entering or leaving, the girls walk while striking the handles together. During the dance, they switch hands and rub the Sasara together. The accompaniment consists of flutes and drums. The drums attached to two bamboo sticks are played by boys, while the girls sing the “Sasara song” in charming voices.Three lions — After the Sasara dance ends, the three lions appears to the music of the “procession.” It consists of two green male lions and one red female lion.装束行列520年以上続く雨乞い行事として、稲作に欠かせない水を願う地域の信仰を現代に伝える象徴的な祭り（天下の奇祭と称されている）。As a rain-praying tradition that has continued for more than 520 years, this is a symbolic festival that carries forward the local belief in praying for water—essential for rice cultivation—into the present day.
