Children dance carrying gifts on their back! The traditional Oteteko dance passed down in Nechi ValleyThis traditional performing art has been passed down in Nechi Valley for more than 500 years and is steeped in Shintoism and Buddhism syncretism. It involves ten performances, mainly children’s bugaku dances. These include the Oteteko dance, in which children carry large gifts on their backs and dance to songs and drums, a performance that is part of Nechiyama-dera Temple’s Ennen (traditional performing arts presented after Buddhist memorial services). There is something austere about their gorgeous dancing.
