Summer in Yahiko is filled with excitement, with the magnificent lantern ceremony and dances passed down from generation to generation.A lantern ritual handed down from generation to generation at Yahiko Shrine, which involves a procession of portable shrines, preceded and followed by a line of michigaku folk dancers who play music while walking, accompanied by large lanterns and dengaku lanterns, spending around two hours to tour the village. At night, following the procession, large lanterns illuminate the temporary dance hall set up in front of the hall of worship, creating a solemn atmosphere, where two dancers perform the Kagaraku and Amainu no Mai dances. A magical world interwoven with traditional dancingA Bon dance that has been passed down through the generations in Uonuma City, Niigata Prefecture. A 6-meter-high wooden frame is built on the grounds of Hachimangu Shrine, the setting for the event, and a hexagonal lantern with the lyrics to the Bon dance song is hung in the center of this frame. The leader and the dancers sing alternately, and the performers surrounding the wooden frame dance elegantly to the sound of drums and flutes. The beauty of its slow movements stands out. The graceful dancing and singing echoing through the evening temple grounds transport the viewer to an ancient scene.
