Graceful boats carrying spirits travel the ocean! The test of strength in the races and floats decorated with flowers is spectacular.A grand festival of Kibune Shrine also known as one the Three Great Boat Festivals of Japan. Portable shrines with sacred offerings of Kibune Shrine are towed by rowing small boats across the port with small and fast boats on the east and west along with musical boats. They then process down the streets and cross the waters to return to the shrine pavilions. They can be seen traveling over seawater for two days as the towing boats are navigated through the races. There are plenty of sights to see on both the sea and land, including the carriers of the floats decorated with flowers showing their strength and skill, the traditional Kashima dance, and the lively music.Historical sounds of history make a brilliant comeback! An atmospheric recreation of a feudal lord’s procession during the Edo period. The feudal lord’s procession of 100 people walks down through a hot springs town for roughly 2 kilometers to the shouts of “Shitani ! Shitani! (Heads down! Heads down!)”. It is the recreation of a procession of a feudal lord traveling between his hometown and Edo every other year during the Edo period. It is presented with the same number of people and size as that of the Odawara Domain, which boasted a scale of 113,000 koku (unit of value). The event is reminiscent of bygone processions with many features, including a Yakkofuri performance with lacquered boxes and feathered spears, loud matchlock guns being fired, and the majestic lord of the domain.Date:Every year on the last Friday and Saturday in JulyPlace:Kibune Shrine, Manazuru Port, etc.Train: About 15 min. on foot from JR Manazuru Station (Manazuru Port)Kibune Festival Preservation SocietyDate:November 3 every yearPlace:Hakone Yumoto Hot Spring Town, Route 1Train: Hakone-Yumoto Station on the Odakyu Romance car (passes by the station at around 2 p.m.)Hakone Yumoto Tourism Association開催日:毎年7月最終金曜日・土曜日場所:貴船神社、真鶴港など電車:JR「真鶴駅」より徒歩約15分(真鶴港)貴船まつり保存会0465-68-0066開催日:毎年11月3日場所:箱根湯本温泉街・国道1号線電車:小田急ロマンスカー「箱根湯本駅」(駅周辺の通過時刻は14:00頃)箱根湯本観光協会 0460-85-7751神輿巡幸に際して辻々を清めるため、相模湾・伊豆半島沿岸部に伝承される神事舞踏「鹿島踊り」が奉納される。A sacred Kashima dance that has been passed down to the coast of Izu Peninsula in Sagami Bay is offered to purify the coast of Izu Peninsula in Sagami Bay during the procession of portable shrines. One of the highlights of the procession is the yakko’s technique of throwing a 4-meter-long “keyari” (spear) in time with the calling of the crowd. This performance attracts a great deal of attention from spectators along the roadside. *The information provided is current as of the end of December 2025 (Reiwa 7).
