Hikkawase at nighttime is a must-see, especially when the float drivers hold up lanterns and cheer for the musicians.る。例年10月の第3日曜日とその前日に実施されるこのお祭りでは、市内を絢爛豪華な山車が曳き回され、蔵造りの町並みを背景として勇壮なものとなっている。何台もの山車が辻で相対し、すれ違う様は、そのスケールの大きさに圧倒される。「川越氷川祭の山車行事」として平成17年に国の重要無形民俗文化財に指定され、平成28年には「ユネスコ無形文化遺産」に登録された川越まつり。川越市民のみならず、県内外や海外の観光客にも愛されている。江戸の天下祭の影響を強く受け、発展してきた川越まつりは、370年以上の時代を超えてかつての天下祭の様子や風情を今に伝えている。Gorgeous floats carrying elaborate dolls move along the warehouse-styled streets of the city in a festive picture scroll come to life!Kawagoe Festival, the largest festival in Koedo Kawagoe, has a long history and tradition, dating back to 1648. Usually held on the third Sunday of October and the day before, the festival features gorgeous floats being pulled around the city against the backdrop of the warehouse-styled townscape, creating a magnificent scene for the festival. The sheer scale of the festival is overwhelming as the floats pass each other on the streets. The Kawagoe Festival was designated Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property of Japan in 2005 as “Kawagoe Hikawa Festival Float Event,” and was registered as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2008. It is loved not only by the citizens of Kawagoe but also by tourists from inside and outside of the prefecture as well as overseas.
