Please check the latest information before planning your visit.The re-enactment of a magnificent warrior procession at the World Heritage site of Nikko Toshogu Shrine, dating back 400 yearsThe grand Festival is held at Nikko Toshogu Shrine, which has a group of shrine pavilions registered as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site. On October 17, following the Autumn Festival, “Hyakumonozoroi Sennin Musha Gyoretsu” is held from 11:00 a.m., recreating the procession of 400 years ago when the spirit of Shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu was transferred from Sunpu Kunozan to Nikko. The procession of more than 800 Nikko citizens dressed as armored warriors, archers, spearmen, monkey handlers, and falconers escorting the portable shrine that carries the spirit to the otabisho. The subsequent rituals and kagura dances held at the otabisho are also a must-see.
