The puppets are moved around skillfully on ropes stretched in the air, and the sight of fireworks exploding is breathtaking.で人形芝居を演じるという伝統民俗芸能である。「三本綱」「からくり人形仕掛け花火」とも呼ばれる。現在、つくばみらい市には「小張松下流」及び「高岡流」の2流派が存在し、両流派を合わせて「綱火」として国の重要無形民俗文化財に指定されている。小張松下流綱火は、1603年に小張城主となった火薬師でもある松下重綱が考案し、戦勝祝いや犠牲者の供養のため陣中で行ったものとされる。火薬の調合やからくりの秘法は家臣の大橋吉左衛門に伝授され、「松下流」として小張の地で受け継がれてきた。現在は毎年8月24日の夜、小張地区に所在する小張愛宕神社で執り行われる祭礼の際に火難除け・五穀豊穣を祈願して奉納されている。夜間、仕掛け花火の灯を照明として、古典的な口上と太鼓・笛・鉦などのお囃子にのり、3本の大綱と張り巡らされた小綱を舞台に人形が舞う。その佇まいは圧巻で、幻想的な美しさを醸し出す。Experience a magical night sky woven by the Obari Matsushita School rope fire!Tsunabi is a traditional performing art combining puppets and fireworks. It involves manipulating a rope stretched in the air to control puppets in time with music. It is also known as "Sanbonzuna" or "Karakuri Ningyo Fireworks," and there are two schools of this art in Tsukubamirai City: the Obari Matsushita school and the Takaoka school. The two schools are known together as "Tsunabi" and have been designated an Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property of Japan. Obari Matsushita-style ropework fire is said to have been invented by Matsushita Shigetsuna, a gunpowder maker who became the lord of Obari Castle in 1603 and is believed to have held performances at his camp to celebrate victory in battles and as a memorial for victims. The secret methods of mixing gunpowder and making the fireworks were handed down to his vassal Kichizaemon Ohashi, and the tradition has been passed down in the Obari area by the Matsushita school. Nowadays, it is offered as a prayer for protection from fires and a good harvest on the night of August 24th every year, during a festival held at Obari Atago Shrine in the Obari district. At night, puppets dance on a stage with three large ropes and a small rope stretched across, illuminated by fireworks and accompanied by classical chants and music consisting of drums, flutes, and gongs.
